We should use less plastic. It is harmful to the environment and us. Even though they have only been around for 50 years, 160,000 plastic bags are used every second! And according to scientists, over 100 million marine animals are getting killed each year due to plastic bags in the ocean. That includes sea birds, seals, turtles, and whales. It is now believed that 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic are in the ocean. They are littering ocean, neighborhoods, cities, and countries. People often approximately throw 185 pounds of plastic in the ocean, per year. And according to the Waste Management, only 1 percent of plastic bags are returned for recycling.
